Hey guys Andrew here from Fit Futures.

A common question I get asked is ‘can I eat before bed?’. There’s a kind of a belief that goes around, you know the rule, like no carbs after 6:00 p.m. It’s due to people thinking there’s a risk, if you’re eating after 6:00 p.m. you’re not going to be doing much exercise so these carbohydrates and these calories are going to be, you know, stored as fat due to inactivity while you’re sleeping. However there’s no scientific research to actually prove this and what’s more likely it’s just excess calories that’s going to cause weight gain.

So if that snack that you are having before bedtime is putting you into a calorie surplus then yes you will gain weight but it has nothing to do with the time of day. The only real issue with eating and then jumping straight into bed and getting horizontal is probably just digestive issues. You know if you just had a big meal and you’re lying down, it’s going to have a few issues and getting that digested.
