Today I’m going to be talking about the importance of lower body training. So many people seem to skip leg day, mostly men. Not too sure why this is, but incorporating leg days or lower body training into your training is very important.
Firstly, from a calorie expenditure point of view, a whole leg workout with squats, deadlifts, leg presses, is going to burn a lot more calories than just an arm workout where you’re doing a few pushdowns and bicep curls here and there.
Secondly, a lot of people don’t realise that the lower body is actually involved, and generates most of the power, in upper body compound lifts. Even with an exercise like a bench-press, you’re still driving your legs into the ground in order to transfer force from the ground, through the legs, into the upper body.
And lastly, for injury prevention as well. If you’ve got poorly conditioned hamstrings, you’re going to get an injury from sprinting or anything like that.
